Professor Kathy Tucker AO

Associate Professor Kathy Tucker is a clinical cancer geneticist with extensive experience in cancer genetics. She founded the first Australian Familial Cancer Service in 1994 and is the former head of the Hereditary Cancer Centre, Prince of Wales Hospital as well as a conjoint of the POWH Clinicl school of the University of New South Wales. Since founding this service, Associate Professor Tucker has been actively involved in local, state-wide and national working parties on genetics service and policy development. Some of these working and/or research groups include the Kathleen Cunningham Consortium into Familial Aspects Breast Cancer; the National Breast Cancer Centre (Australia) Genetic Testing Working Party; the NSW Oncology Group – Cancer Genetics Working Party; and the NSW Hereditary Cancer Advisory Committee. She led the development of telehealth as an additional medium to care for cancer genetic patients and their families. She was involved as the clinical geneticist in the Australian Pancreatic cancer genome initiative and lead the integration of pancreatic cancer genetics into the familial cancer services. She is a key contributor to the cancer genetics stream of the NSW Cancer Institute- Evidence into Clinical Practice – eviQ.org.au. Associate Professor Tucker was awarded an Officer of the Order of Australia in June 2018’s AO for her distinguished service to medicine in the field of familial cancer genetics. She was also recognized for her work as a clinician, researcher and author; and for her contribution to medical education and to professional bodies.
