Dr. Koroush Haghighi
Dr Koroush Haghighi is an experienced hepatopancreatobiliary and transplant surgeon. A consultant specialist at Prince of Wales and St Vincent’s public and private hospitals in Sydney, he has completed training and fellowships in Australia, the UK and the USA to become one of the most prominent practitioners in his field.
His exceptional clinical expertise is paralleled by his unwavering commitment to patient outcomes. Passionate about the complexity of hepatopancreatobiliary medicine, Dr Haghighi is known for delivering personalised, accessible and highly responsive care that reflects his desire to help patients return to their everyday lives.
He received his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Adelaide (1994), and completed his basic surgical training at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (1994-96) and advanced surgical training at Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney (1997-2002). He was subsequently awarded the Paul McMaster Fellowship in HPB & Liver Transplantation from the Australian and New Zealand Hepatic, Pancreatic and Biliary Association (2004-5) which he undertook at the Queen Elizabeth and Birmingham Children’s Hospitals in the UK. He has also completed an Abdominal Multiorgan Transplantation Fellowship from the Mayo Clinic Rochester in the USA (2005-6).
Today, Dr Haghighi performs 150 major pancreatic and liver surgeries every year, and has completed more than 1200 over the course of his career. He performs both venous and arterial resections for complete tumour removal, and uses NanoKnife and microwave techniques as adjunct techniques. He also uses NanoKnife to treat locally advanced pancreatic cancers that can’t be resected.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr Haghighi is a senior lecturer in surgery at the University of New South Wales, Australia. Among his many professional accreditations, he is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a member of the Australian, international, American and European associations of hepatopancreatobiliary surgeons.
